Cause for alarm?
|

As scientists and policy analysts who’ve studied our ever-changing climate for a combined 65 years and attribute the changes primarily to natural forces, we’ve wondered that ourselves and also asked: Why is warming always framed as bad news? Why does so much “research” claim a warmer planet “may” lead to more diarrhea, acne and childhood insomnia, more juvenile delinquency, war, violent crime and prostitution, death of the Loch Ness Monster – and even more Mongolian cows dying from cold weather?, writes Paul Driessen, Willie Soon and Davil Laget |

Climate exaggerations creating unnecessary panic
|

Worrying excessively about global warming means that we worry less about other things, where we could do so much more good. We focus, for example, on global warming's impact on malaria instead of tackling the half a billion people suffering from malaria today. Exaggeration also wears out the public's willingness to tackle global warming. If the planet is doomed, people wonder, why do anything? But the worst cost of exaggeration is the unnecessary alarm that it causes among children, writes Björn Lomborg in the Guardian. |

Ignore the Climate Change siren

Prof. Julian Morris points out that only a few European governments are now pushing strongly for a new global cap and they are doing so because their own policies are causing economic pain. “Some European ministers are trying to foist their own flawed climate policies on the rest of the world – in order to spread the pain. For the sakes of humanity, this EU siren song should be ignored,” he concluded. |

This is an interim assessment by the 'Climate Challenge India' coalition of the Government of India's National Action Plan on Climate Change released on 30th June 2008. We welcome the report - which has been long in the making - and believe that a frank and full assessment of it is now needed with a view to setting a clear and ambitious direction on this vital agenda for our country. On balance, the verdict of the 'Climate Challenge India' coalition on the National Action Plan on Climate Change was a critical one. The group gave the report a B+ for effort, and a D for vision. |

Among the areas that could be worst hit by inflow of such refugees could be regions lying close to Bangladesh and China which will have millions of people uprooted by climatic upheavals, reports a Staff Reporter in The Assam Tribune. |
